Fix Catalog file error and get rid of application crashes

Application crashes generally occurs on Mac OSX when any application could not perform the functions expected from it. Due to this other components of your system also gets freeze. If the crashed application is a crucial component of Mac OS X kernel, the entire system may also crash. And thus you will have to face problems in accessing data from the hard drive and may also suffer severe data loss consequences.

A large number of finder crashes or application crashes are encountered by the users working on Macbook using Mac OSX. At that point of time you may also face bus errors like Error 41. For resolving such issues, you should reinstall the Mac OSX safely by using ‘Archive and Install’. Users also try to resolve the issue by doing defragmentation.

It has been found that if you try to defragment the Mac OS X hard drive using disk defragment utilities, the following error message appears:

“An error was found in a directory record in the catalog b-tree. The disk has incorrect Finder settings that may be interfering with the normal operations of your disk. (Node 1630) (5,7,19) Node #1630, Record Offset 1”

The above-mentioned catalog file error generally occurs due to problems in catalog directory or catalog file. Finder application having incorrect settings also results in the above-mentioned error. Mac OS X is divided into different volumes which comprise four basic items such as files, file threads, directories and directory threads. For defining all these items, all its records are kept in the form of catalog file by Mac. Catalog file is a critical data structure associated with Mac OS X and is structured in B*-tree formation. It is needed for the proper functioning of your Mac OSX.

How to fix catalog file errors:

You may use disk Utility for correcting invalid node size of B-tree. You may try to resolve the error by using fsck. But, it should be used in single user mode. You should also check the log reports and media. If you are still setting the same problem, backup all your data and do a fresh installation of your Macbook by using Erase and Install option.

In the absence of a valid or updated backup you will have to take the help of third-party mac data recovery applications for performing MacBook formatted data recovery after catalog file errors. It has the capacity to recover data from HFS, HFS+, HFSX, HFS Wrapper and FAT file system based disks. These applications safely recover your lost data by using advanced searching options.
